CHURCH GRAND ORGANIST
Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church (TMBC) is seeking an experienced musician to provide musical support to enhance the worship experience through the use of the Grand Organ, Hammond Organ and Piano. Providing the diverse musical skills necessary for the many genres found in today’s church music. This is a Part-Time position reporting to the Dean of Worship Arts and Music Ministry and the Senior Pastor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide optimum performance on the Grand Organ or Piano for Worship Services and Rehearsals.
- Serve at 48 Sunday Worship Services annually
- Serve at annual special services including: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas and Watch-Night.
- Attend and provide musical support at scheduled rehearsals for assigned choir(s)
- Be available for other special services as requested by the Pastor
- Periodically provide musical support at funeral services
- Accompany soloists both scheduled and unscheduled during services.
- Collaborate with Dean of Worship and Arts Ministry, Choir Directors and Pastor in planning and preparing music appropriate for each worship service.
- Collaborate with Dean of Worship and Arts Ministry to provide for appropriate substitutes for worship services and special events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience serving as an Organist preferred
- Experience performing on the Grand Organ in applicable practice
- Able to sight-read music; especially playing in four part choral music
- Able to read Open-Score
Successful candidates also possess the following key skills and abilities:
- Knowledgeable of the liturgy, church seasons, and the role of music in the liturgy
- Ability to effectively accompany soloists
- Ability to adapt range and chordal texture to accompany singing by groups of various sizes.
- Ability to improvise transitions and create musical underscores.
- Ability to modify a piano accompaniment for organ and vice versa.
- Ability to be flexible.
